Oversight & audits

What the records can — and cannot — prove.

A spending anomaly is a lead for review, not proof of misconduct. Vendor names can vary, payments can be split across periods or agencies, and accounting classifications matter. Strong analysis checks source records, procurement documents, agency explanations, audit findings and applicable policy before drawing conclusions.

What to keep in view

  • Use official audit reports and supporting schedules
  • Normalize vendor names carefully and retain raw identifiers
  • Distinguish a data-quality issue from a control finding or proven wrongdoing
How to read this page

We distinguish a source’s reported observation from our interpretation. Where an update is preliminary, approximate or not comparable across geographies, we say so. This page is an explanatory guide, not an official government notice or professional advice.
